Curtains are usually made out of lighter fabrics like cotton, linen, sheer, and translucent fabrics. They can be more economical to produce and ship than heavy drapes. Curtains, unlike drapes, are often not lined. Depending on the openness of the weave they provide less privacy when used alone but are light enough to be paired with blinds or shutters without making windows appear bulky. Overall, curtains tend to create a more casual, airier look.
